Tarika means both "led by" and "the group". The original name was Tarika Sammy, but when Sammy left and Hanitra Rasoanaivo took over she dropped the Sammy portion and just left them called "the group". They play Malagasy roots music, a very danceable and modern style of music based on the traditional instruments and sounds of Madagascar. They have released 4 CDs and have been touring to support them since 1994. |
