African Music Concerts Week of Aug 1 - Aug 2

Fri, Aug 1 Bembeya Jazz with Sekou "Diamond Fingers" Diabate

The sound of African big band jazz finally hits the shores of the West Coast. A premier band from Guinea, well known since the '60s, plays the sounds of Cuban jazz and Manding brass. Sekou is nicknamed for his incredible guitar licks. This is their first trip to the United States, so give them a rousing welcome!

Fri, Aug 1 Blay Ambolley

In Ghana when the brass gets warmed up, the guitars are tuned and the drummers ready, high life and jazz are the order of the day. Blay and his Afrikaan Jazz ensemble bring you the real sounds, baked in since the 60's, and ready for the new generation.
