African Music Concerts Week of Apr 25 - Apr 30

Revolutionary Zimbabwean singer Thomas Mapfumo will grace the stage of the intimate room at Temple Bar. His distinctive and passionate singing will accompany the mbiras of the band. He is virtually outlawed in his homeland and instead is exiled to the Pacific Northwest. He may perform in town once or twice a year now that he lives closer to us.

Only the Baobab tree is older than this band. They started in the '70s by combining the traditional Senegalese sound with the newer Cuban son music. The result is a mellow blend that is best enjoyed in a performance hall. Sit back, relax and tap your toe to their tunes in the plush seats and redolent sound chamber that is the Cerritos Center.
