African Music Concerts Week of Sep 5 - Sep 11
Thu, Sep 9
Jerri Jheto
Nigerian reggae mixed with some pop is Jerri's forte. He calls it Highlife Reggae. He hasn't played in LA for quite a while so this is a chance to hear his latest sound. BB King's is the place to see him if you want to have dinner in an upscale restaurant, with a nice atmosphere. Parking will set you back $7, but it is a recommended change of pace from the normal venues.
Thu, Sep 9
Andre Manga
Andre has a weekly gig in Little Ethiopia. The band plays his trademark Afro-Jazz sound. It features the electric bass, keyboard, saxophone, percussion, drums, lead guitar and some guest musicians and vocalists.
Sat, Sep 11
Jerri Jheto
Jerri has played with the likes of Sonny Okosuns, Manu Dibango, King Sunny Ade and Osibisa. He is a real specialist on the bass, but in this show he fronts the band singing vocals to his pop reggae tunes. Don't worry, though, the drummer definitely puts in that funky African beat underneath it all, so you the result is upbeat African music. |
