African Music Concerts Week of Apr 17 - Apr 23

Wed, Mar 23 - Sat, Apr 30 The stageplay "Yellowman"

Come out to see the Pulitzer nominated play about Black-on-Black discrimination in the Gullah-Geechee culture of South Carolina's Sea Islands. The play investigates the racism that favors lighter skinned individuals over their more African looking neighbors. Love, alcohol, generational chasms and other complexities of everyday life are intricately wound into a heart-wrenching story. Highly recommended. Now extended through April 30!

The Fountain Theatre 8PM; 2PM Sunday $25
Sun, Apr 17 Jorlapalooza 2005

Rounding out a solid weekend of music, Temple Bar features a series of DJs interrupted in the middle by djembe master Leon Mobley. He takes American icons down to Africa and transforms their music to his drum sound. Leon plays with Ben Harper and the Innocents, but his passion is his own djembe sound. DJ Clement of Cameroon closes the place down with his African disc selections.

Temple Bar 7-10:30PM $30 pre $35 door
