African Music Concerts Week of Aug 6 - Aug 12

The golden voice from Mali, Salif is one of the mega-stars that comes through town every few years. He started his reputation in Bamako playing with the state sponsored Rail Band. He later moved to Paris and became an international star. His music varies from deeply emotional ballads to highly danceable beats. This is one of the summer's best shows. Highly recommended.

Opening for Salif is Ashley Maher and her global band which includes Andre Manga and Aziz Faye among others.

Naby is from Guinea, but is living in Canada now. He plays the balafon and djembe, with his band he is accompanied by a kora and dun-dun.

A 50's Cuban restaurant is the perfect place for a dose of Ricardo's rumba/salsa groove. He mixes Caribbean and African rhythms to create a very danceable and popular style.
