Thu, Aug 24
Mamadou Diabate
In Mali, the griot class has always told the stories of royalty -- the history of the country and its rulers. The history is passed down each generation, which then adds the new events during their lifetime. Mamadou is a member of this tradition and a master of the 21-string kora. This is traditional Mande music at its finest. He was nominated for a 2005 Grammy award with his CD Behmanka.
Fri, Aug 25
Adewale Ayuba
Nigeria is the birthplace of Fuji music. Adewale is known as the "Fuji Ambassador" and is furthering its boundaries. He is a Kora Award Winner based in New York. He has been touring the US to spread his 2nd generation Fuji sound. The dancing is a spectacle, so don't miss this event.
Sat, Aug 26
Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca
A 50's Cuban restaurant is the perfect place for a dose of Ricardo's rumba/salsa groove. He mixes Caribbean and African rhythms to create a very danceable and popular style.
