Sibongile Khumalo is a young rising star from South Africa. Her debut album was received to wide acclaim a couple years ago, even ranking on a "few best of the year" lists. Hugh Masekela has been playing trumpet for decades. He is world reknowned as a master jazz musician from South Africa. You have probably heard his music before, especially if you saw the stage performance of "The Lion King". The Refugee Stars played in Los Angeles for the first time last year at Skirball. Now they are on a tour of the country and are returning to showcase their movie and live performance skills. The band members met while they were displaced from their homeland during the war in Sierra Leone. A shared sense of being without a home brought their music together. When they returned, they took a house together and continued what they started abroad. Their West African pop music is now on tour around the world.
