Thu 17 Jan 8:30 $18 / $20 Tony Allen was the drummer for Fela Kuti. He established the signature afrobeat rhythm of the drums and is considered the master of that style. He continues to pursue the themes and philosophies of Fela, however, he is also in tune with the new sounds of youth and tries to include them. His songs are shorter than Fela's and incorporate dub, hip-hop and techno elements, but still have that afrobeat feel. He was last in LA in 2000, so take advantage of this rare treat. |
