Atlas Bar & Grill This is our first double-header performance for West African Wednesdays. The night starts at 8:30pm with Khaley Nguewel led by Aziz Faye, a troupe of Senegalese sabar drummers and dancers. The four drummers will be on stage creating the beat, while the dancers will take to the floor in front of the audience. The dancers perform their unique style by executing controlled wild gyrations of their limbs accompanied by twisting aerial jumps. They will perform for the first hour of the evening. After a short break, Dodo Munoko and La Rumba Band will take the stage. They perform the old rumba style of soukous from Congo that Dodo learned while singing with Tabu Ley Rochereau. Nene Tchacou will provide the heat on the lead guitar. Bring a friend, or find one on the dance floor, because it won't be as much fun if you find yourself trying to groove the beat on your own! Dodo Munoko used to sing with Tabu Ley Rochereau. The band broke up while they were in Los Angeles and Dodo started his own group called La Rumba Band which continues the same approach to soukous with its easy style. His latest CD is in called "Eza Rhythme" which is Lingala for "Easy Rhythm". |
