Friday 23 Feb 9:00 Fela Night $10 Remi Kabaka played with Ginger Baker (Creme) and Steve Winwood (Traffic) back in the 60s and 70s. He was a contemporary of Fela Kuti and could be found jamming in underground clubs with Fela in the 80s in Lagos. He is currently in LA starting a band called Kabaka. The band combines drums, saxophone, trombone, and the classical Ghanaian trumpet of Kpakpo Adu (of the famed Uhuru Dance Band in the 60s) to recreate the Highlife Jazz and Afrobeat that was heard in the 60s and 70s in Nigeria. |
