Thomas Mapfumo and the Blacks Unlimited have been singing protest songs for the last 25 years. He took traditional Shona music and molded it to his social evangelism creating a new style he called "chimurenga" (a Shona term for "struggle" or "fight"). He is now a national hero who demands that Zimbabweans respect their history, ancestry, and traditions. He does this by example with his modified traditional music.
