The Conga Room started out dedicated to Latin music lovers, and it still
serves that purpose well, but it is beginning to expand. First the restaurant
grew, and now the lineup has a few servings of World Music -- the latest of
which was an incredible show with Habib Koite and Oumou Sangare which drew
fans like Bonnie Rait, Jackson Browne, Peter Gabriel,
Rocky Dawuni (Ghana) and
Prince Eyango (Cameroon).
The best performance I have ever seen was Richard Bona playing here
with the
Soukous Stars
in the audience.
Watch for more African shows as they begin to spread their wings, but
also look for the Latin-tinged soukous of
Ricardo Lemvo
who plays there regularly. With a raised stage in an intimate room, you
can be up close and personal with some excellent performers.
